Teacher Spotlight: Sylvie
Get to know some of our lovely teachers here at Cantabile!
Sylvie, Voice
How long have you been singing and why did you pick it up?
I’ve always sung in choirs growing up but didn’t start formal singing lessons until I was in year 9. I’ve always enjoyed singing but taking formal lessons with someone guiding my music journey really helped and enhanced my technique in using my voice as an instrument.
What do you like the most about your instrument?
I love how versatile and important it is as an instrument. Everyone have unique voices, it all comes down to the way you use it and what you want to produce to the audience. As singers, we also get the advantage of using lyrics. We are often the ones who presents the story and emotions behind every piece of music.
What do you like the most about teaching at Cantabile?
At Cantabile, I get the opportunity to teach both singing and piano as well as early learning program which I’m so thankful of. I love the work environment and the people I work with, the students are all enthusiastic in their learning which motivates me as a teacher.
Quick advice for students
A quick tip for singers that I would suggest is please look after yourselves!! Your voice is your instrument and therefore vocal health is crucial if you want to pursue singing as a career. Chat to your teachers and get to know how your voice works as an instrument, start implementing different warm ups into your routine and practice to make sure you are protecting your voice!

Calling for Parent Volunteers
We are currently looking for a few parent/guardian volunteers for each session of our 2018 Winter Concert. This would involve helping out with refreshments and being an extra pair of hands to look out for the students/performers on the day!
If your child is performing/you would be interested at all in helping us out in this capacity – please see our front desk/sign-up sheet as soon as possible.
We would love your help!
